Shri Ghan Shyam Sharma, Additional Director General, is an Indian Defence Service of Engineers officer of 1982 UPSC Engineering Services Exam. He is Civil Engineering graduate, with 1st position in the University, from Samarat Ashok Technological Institute, Vidisha under Bhopal University. He did his post graduation in Geotechnical Engineering from prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore with distinction. The officer has vast experience of implementing prestigious green-field projects for defence services at various stations across the country. As GE (Project), Bikaner, he brought up a new station at Udhasar with 1100 Md. Qrs. and re-designed a 32 LGPD water supply scheme which resulted in 33% saving in cost of the mega scheme. Similarly, he re-designed the road crest for 55 KM virgin road network using locally available materials resulting in 25% saving in cost of the project. He was awarded Army Commanders Commendation Card for these contributions in 1995. As GE (Pithoragarh) he applied very innovative engineering solutions to the peculiar problems in various projects in the hill station for which he was again awarded Commendation Card in year 2000 and the Division was awarded 03 Best GE's Trophies in Bareilly Zone during his tenure. The officer has generally rendered his services in raising new project offices as he successfully raised GE (Project) Bikaner in 1993 and then raised Project Manager for Modernisation of COD Jabalpur in 2009. He held another project assignment as CWE (Project), Delhi Cantt. from 2003-2005 and was closely associated with planning of Maneksha Centre. He also used his skills in successfully bringing the derailed MES offices back on rails, be it GE (Pithoragarh) in 1998 or Chief Engineer (Factories) Hyderabad Zone in 2014. The officer has also served in various staff appointments at Port Blair, Ca: Nicobar under CE Port Blair Zone, SEMT Wing of CME Pune, CE (AF) Shillong Zone, CE Delhi Zone, CE Jabalpur Zone, CE (R&D) Secunderabad and ADG (D&C) Pune. He did a successful stint as Director in Central Vigilance Commission from Mar 2012 to Jan 2014 handling vigilance cases of Central Board of Excise & Customs, Railways etc. On promotion as ADG, he is once again raising ADG (North), Jammu against all odds. The officer has contributed 08 Technical Papers in various National Journals and Seminars on various topics of interest to fellow engineers. The officer is Founder Life Member of Indian Society of Rock Mechanics & Tunneling Technology besides being Fellow of Institution of Engineers, India.
